Toby Steven Hull

Toby Steven Hull, 78, of Madison, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on November 29, 1946, Toby was a lifelong Eastsider with deep roots in the community he called home. He was remembered fondly for his 20 years as a leader of Cub Scout Pack 34 and helping out with Scout Troop 34. For 35 years, he worked as an arborist for the City of Madison, dedicating his days to the care and preservation of the city’s trees.

Throughout his life he loved visiting lighthouses, both coastal and the Great Lakes. From his youth to his final days, he never stopped looking with wonder at the stars with his fascination of astronomy, and his fandom of all things Sci-fi. Even with his eyes on the sky, his feet stayed firmly planted on the ground on camping trips with the scouts and family. When outdoors, he loved cannoning on the rivers and lakes of Wisconsin. Toby was an avid baseball player with the local team, and with his teammates, pulled an all-nighter to help paint the roof of the old TUNA DOME. At home he enjoyed watching Packers, Brewers, and Bucks games, and if time allowed, grabbed a beer (or two) with one or all of his boys.

A frequent pertain of art fairs, he put his technical skills to work matting and framing works of art with his framing partner and wife, Cindy. With her eye for color and his construction skills, they were a great team. His love and eye for great wildlife art could be seen in collection of prints, stain glass, and beer steins.

Music was a constant presence in Toby’s life. He especially enjoyed attending concerts and fairs, where he found joy in live performances, none more treasured than the songs of The Beatles. Yet above all else, his greatest devotion was to his family.

Toby shared 57 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Cindy. Together they raised four sons: Toby Jr., David, Michael, and Casey (Rachel). He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren: Logan, Mary, Charlie, Dylan, Calley, Ashley, Tristan, Ione, and Azura, and held a special place in the hearts of many nieces and nephews.

He is now reunited with those who preceded him in death: his parents, Wayne and Delores Hull; his brothers, Jerry and Dave; and his son, David.

A visitation to celebrate Toby’s life will be held at ALL FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance at 4058 Lien Road, Madison, Wisconsin.
