Thomas J. Fitzgerald, age 70, of Fitchburg, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly at home on March 7, 2026. He was born on December 29, 1955, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Francis and Marcella Fitzgerald.
Tom spent much of his life in La Valle, Wisconsin, where he lived with his wife, Julie, and children, Spencer and Bailey, for nearly 30 years before later settling in Fitchburg. From November 1980 until his retirement in December 2010, he worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. Earlier in life, he also served briefly in the United States Army.
In his younger years, Tom enjoyed playing tennis, camping, spending time outdoors, and hunting. In the last few years, he preferred watching tennis matches from home, reading, and relaxing with a good movie. He loved spending time with family the most. Whether it was board games, picnics, canoeing, or concerts, he was happiest spending time with his children.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Julie; his children, Spencer and Bailey; his brothers, Patrick, Kyran (Erin), and Kenneth; and his sister, Joan Semrow. Those close to Tom knew he could be stubborn, but he cared deeply and never stopped worrying about the people he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Marcella; his brothers, Frank, Dennis, and Gary; and his brother-in-law, Mark Semrow.
Tom will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his many years serving the community as a mail carrier, and the care and concern he showed for those closest to him.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at the Great Dane Pub - Fitchburg on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather for a meal to share memories and honor his life.
