Robert Kenney

Robert “Bobby” Kenney, age 71 of Madison, passed away on October 5, 2026, at the Agrace HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. He was born in Chicago, on January 19, 1955. He was educated on the streets of Chicago and was a street wise man who made the best of many hard times. He lived hard and did hard time but remained a sweet and amazing human being. He started a fresh life of freedom under the tutelage of Jane Rowe, his adopted grandmother, who led him into sobriety and gratitude where met and he married Michelle, who became Michelle Kenney and they lived happily in sobriety for many years. Sharing a life with dogs and cats and many happy relationships.

He found his sober home group at Early Risers AA group on the north side and was dedicated to his sobriety, except for a slip in his later year that led him down a hard path where both he and Michelle ended up homeless, and Michelle lost her life. Bobby found his way back to sobriety and lived the last three years in sobriety teaching others how to do it though he struggled at the end with cancer.

He worked his way up to being a dedicated maintenance supervisor starting in 2010 until he relapsed. After he regained his sobriety, he started working for the same company in landscaping until he could no longer work due to his cancer diagnosis. He was adored by his boss, Bill R.

He was quite a character and brought joy to all who knew him. Many thanks to the UW Hospital for the amazing cancer care provided to Bobby, Solace House for the amazing support and love they showed him in his final days where he was his fully charming and delightful self, and his final few days at Agrace where the staff gently and kindly led him to his final hours.

He is proceeded in death by his wife, Michelle Kenney; his adopted grandmother, Jane Rowe; and many cats and dogs which he loved with all of his heart. Survivors are Maria Hanson (his adopted sister); and his many recovery friends, especially the Early Riser AA group who cared for him in his final days and throughout his sobriety.

A blessed life is one with many stories that will be shared far into the future and Bobby’s tales will carry on far into the future with much laughter and joy.
