Robert James “Bunny Nose” Schmied, age 71, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 15, 2024, from the affects of cancer surrounded by his family. Bunny was born on March 27, 1953, in Columbus, Wis., the son of Berthold and Ann (Moreth) Schmied.
He spent most of his early life in Columbus causing trouble and then went on to college in Boston. After returning to Wisconsin, he entered into a career of an automotive repair shop manager for 41 years, retiring in 2019. He met his wife Pamela (Barica) at Burr Oaks on Park St. in 1979 and they married on October 11, 1980.
He loved a good bratwurst (from a charcoal grill of course), a cold beer, Indy Car races, a good joke, and fireworks. His joy for Roman candles, bottle rockets, black cats, spinners, and sparklers rivaled that of an unsupervised 12-year-old. Surprisingly he never lost a finger. The show Family Guy fed his immature sense of humor and much to the chagrin of his daughter and son-in-law was guilty of introducing it to two of his grandsons many years before it would’ve been appropriate to. The amount of deprogramming needed was also a sense of amusement.
Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years, Pam; son, Robby (Samantha); daughter, Stephanie (Brian) Graziano; grandchildren, Ava and Hunter Schmied, Frank and Peter Graziano, and his eldest, Larry the Cat; step-grandchild, Sabrina Brien; sister, Ann “Mitzy” Ramminger; brother-in-law, Bob Wernerehl; sisters-in-law, Rachel Thorson-Schmied, Evelyn Barica, Susan Barica, Mary Barica, and Amy (Dave) Stoffels; several nieces and nephews; dear friends; and countless backyard squirrels wondering where their next meal will come from now that he’s gone. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald, James, Pete and Bill - known as the stooges; sister, Marie; in-laws, Hank and Laverne Barica; and brother-in-law, Henry.
He’s ‘No Fun Bun’ so per his wishes, there will be no funeral or visitation. Bunny wishes a “Goodbye for now” and feed my darn squirrels!
