Michael G. Hartenberger

Michael G. Hartenberger came to the end of his 10-year journey with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) Sunday, August 4th at home, in Janesville; just weeks after turning 63. Mike is survived by his wife, Kathy Siekmann Hartenberger; son, Casey Hartenberger, and his wife, Kathleen, and son, Teddy; daughter, Kylie (Hartenberger) Meinert and her husband, Jake; step-daughters, Samantha Coston, and her husband, Zach, and children, Maddox and Henley, and Andrea Davies and her husband, Blake. Mike is also survived by his brothers, Steve and his wife, Karen; Bill and his wife, Caroline; and Greg, along with their families. His brother, Joe and his parents, Mary and Maury Hartenberger were waiting to greet him in heaven!

Life with Mike meant great music at home and at live concerts! He became quite the chef making some signature dishes and desserts. For parties and celebrations, Mike labored for weeks over the menu and the music creating uniquely themed mix-tapes for each occasion. Mike’s troubles started in 2014; the FTD diagnosis came later in 2018, and by then, all aspects of his life, and ours, were affected. Even so, we had our best life, which looked a bit odd at times, yet made no apologies! Mike was able to stay home, but only with the help of our family and friends and by the grace of God. Mike really connected with the staff at Kandu‘s adult day center. Then, in the last weeks, we had the incredible support of Tim, RN and the staff of Interim Health/Hospice.

Visitation will be on Saturday, August 10, from 1PM- 4PM, service to follow at All Faiths Funeral Home, 1618 E. Racine Street, Janesville, WI 53545. Perennial plants are favored by the family to honor Mike’s lasting impact on their lives. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts honoring Mike may be made to Kandu Industries, Inc., Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Janesville, or Rockford Lutheran High School.
