Madison-Delores ‘Dee’ Hernandez passed away on June 28, 2009 at age 31. She was born prematurely on Valentine’s Day in Sacramento, CA to Ronda Benson and Gerardo Hernandez. Her strong spirit started that day and continued to her last day even though she had been diagnosed with a rare cancer in 2006. She was a member of the Ione Tribe of Miwok Indians. She is survived by her partner of over eight years, Jennifer Schroeder; her grandma, Naomi Taylor; her mother, Ronda Benson; a brother, Robert Benson; a sister, Andrea Saenz; 3 nephews and 3 nieces. Her family would like to thank the doctors and staff at UW Carbone Cancer Center for all their hard work and excellent care. They would also like to thank the Hospice team that helped to make Dee’s finals months as comfortable as possible at home. Dee was the kind of person who brought joy to everyone that she knew and was a hero to those who knew about her many battles with her cancer. She will be remembered for her every ready smile, her gentle nature, and her ability to make those around her laugh. Her light will be irreplaceable in this world but it shines even brighter in Heaven. Memorial contributions can be made to the UW Carbone Cancer Center at 600 Highland Ave, K4/658, Madison, WI, 53792 attention: Cancer Research Funds. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Friday, July 3, 2009 at All Faiths Funeral and Cremation Service 4058 Lien Rd, Madison, 53704. A meal will follow at her and Jen’s home located at 1333 Tompkins Dr, Unit A, Madison.
