Bonnie Kay Applebee, 84, of Readstown passed away peacefully in her home on June 12, 2026. She was born on February 27, 1942 to Stanley and Cornelia Peterson and was raised on a dairy farm in Soldiers Grove. She married Charles Applebee on April 5, 1961 in Waukon, IA; their loving marriage spanned 53 years until Charles’ passing in 2014.
In her younger years, Bonnie enjoyed bowling in a local league, taking trips to the riverboat casino in Iowa with her husband, and attending the annual Applefest, a tradition she always looked forward to. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and was an active and supportive presence in their lives. Her grandchildren always knew Nana and Papa’s house was a place where they were loved, welcomed, and encouraged to stay a while. She enjoyed doing crosswords, reading, watching old westerns, going to bingo nights, and browsing flea markets. Bonnie was known for her collection of apples and bees, and her homemade chocolate malts became a favorite memory shared by family and friends alike.
Bonnie will be dearly missed by her children, Sara Applebee, Laura Livick, and Carol Marshall; her grandchildren, Brandon Livick, Ashly (Nick) Hanson, Marc (Maddie) Applebee, Jessica (Ryan) Roth, Robert (Cassie) Marshall, Nicholas (Lauren) Livick, Tiffany (Scottie) Hunt, Michelle (Dylan) Gray, Bridget Swart, and Austin Applebee; her great-grandchildren, Brenen Livick, Lilah Livick, Evie Livick, Jocelynn Roth, Jaxton Roth, Sophia Roth, Ja’kiyah Hunt, Willow Hunt, Charles Livick, Cleo Livick, Damond Hanson, Presly Hanson, Jaryd Heth, Grayson Applebee, Sebastian Applebee, Charlotte Applebee, Olivia Gray, Elizabeth Marshall, and Emmett Marshall; and her siblings, Karen Sigl, Richard (Colleen) Peterson, Gary (Mary Jo) Peterson, Carolyn Peterson, Archie (JoLynne) Peterson, Mary Peterson, Ole (Lois) Peterson.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents; her siblings, Rodney Peterson, Robert “Bullet” Peterson, and Jackie Shively; her son-in-law, Todd Marshall; and her son, Marc Applebee.
In accordance with Bonnie’s wishes, no public service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in Bonnie’s memory to support research aimed at finding better treatments and a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
The family encourages those who knew and loved Bonnie to remember her with gratitude for the time they shared and the memories she leaves behind.
